Immunisation schedule by age: a general guide
This is general information about how childhood immunisation is usually staged in India — not a schedule prepared for any particular child, and not a substitute for confirming dates directly with your child's doctor.
Before you read this
Vaccination schedules can vary slightly by which guidelines a doctor follows, and by what your child has already received. Nothing below is a recommendation for your child specifically — it's context so that a conversation with the doctor covers ground you already understand, rather than starting from nothing.
Birth to six weeks
The earliest vaccines are typically given at or shortly after birth, with the next round due around six weeks. This is usually when parents first start tracking a schedule properly, often using a card or booklet the hospital or clinic provides at birth.
Six weeks to six months
This stretch usually carries the most vaccine visits of any period in a child's first year, often in a series of doses spaced a few weeks apart. Missing an exact date by a few days is common and rarely a problem in practice — but it's worth mentioning at the next visit rather than assuming it doesn't matter.
Six months to two years
Further doses and boosters typically continue through this period, often timed around a child's first birthday. This is also usually when parents ask the most questions — about reactions, about catching up on a missed dose, and about additional vaccines beyond the standard government schedule.
Two years and beyond
Booster doses and school-entry vaccines usually continue into the preschool and early school years. By this stage most of the original schedule is complete, and visits become less frequent.
What to actually confirm with the clinic
- Which vaccines your child has already had, and on what dates
- Whether any dose is currently due or overdue
- Which vaccines beyond the standard schedule you want to discuss
- How your child reacted to previous doses, if at all
None of this is answered generically here, because it depends on your child's own record. Message or call ahead of your visit and this can be talked through directly.
